Trail Explorer Cycle Works

We provide high-quality servicing and repairs for all types of bikes, from everyday and kids’ bikes through to modern mountain bikes and e-bikes. We use specialist tools and manufacturer-approved procedures where applicable, and all work is carried out with care and attention to detail.

Our workshop is led by a Cytech-qualified mechanic and MIAS-qualified coach and cycle maintenance tutor, bringing professional mechanical expertise, teaching-level standards, and real-world riding experience to every service — from basic maintenance to performance-focused setups.

📅 Booking Your Bike In

 

To book your bike in, you can call us, send us a message, or pop into the shop. We’re always happy to have a look at your bike, talk through any obvious issues, and advise on a suitable service before booking it in. Some additional work may only become apparent once the bike is stripped or work has begun — if that’s the case, we’ll always contact you to discuss the findings and agree on any extra work before proceeding.

This covers assessment, fault-finding, and quotation for repair or service work.

🔍 Basic Service

£60

A basic check to ensure your bike is safe and correctly set up.

Includes:

• Visual inspection of frame and components

• Gears and brakes checked and adjusted

• Bolt check and torque where required

• Handlebar, saddle, and controls aligned

• Drivetrain lubricated if required

 

🔧 Essential Service

£90

Keep your bike running smoothly and reliably.

Includes:

• Full safety check

• Drivetrain cleaned and lubricated

• Gears and brakes fully adjusted

• Wheels checked for true and spoke tension

• Wear items inspected and reported

 

⚙️ Performance Service

£130

Restore performance and reliability on harder-used bikes.

Includes:

• All items from the Essential Service

• Deeper clean of drivetrain and components

• Drivetrain removed where required for effective cleaning

• Brake system checked (bleed if required – additional cost)

• Bearings and suspension pivots inspected

• Bike test ridden and re-checked

• Wheels checked for true and spoke tension
  (Minor adjustment included where required)

 

🔩 Full Overhaul

From £260

A complete strip, refresh, and rebuild.

Includes:

• Full strip-down and inspection of all components

• Headset, hubs, and bottom bracket serviced (where applicable)

• Gear and brake cables replaced (parts charged separately)

• Bike rebuilt, torqued correctly, and test ridden

• Detailed condition report and recommendations

• Wheels fully inspected for wear, true, and spoke tension
  (Minor adjustment included where required)

Any additional wheel truing or spoke replacement will be quoted separately.

⚡ E-Bike Servicing

All service packages are available for e-bikes.

Due to increased weight, motor access, integrated cabling, and overall complexity:

e-bikes may incur a 10–20% labour uplift where applicable

Any uplift will always be discussed and agreed before work begins.

🧼 Basic Bike Clean

£25

A light clean to remove dirt and grime before servicing or riding.

Includes:

• Drivetrain degreased and rinsed

• Frame and components washed

• Chain wiped and re-lubricated

This is a surface-level clean and does not include deep component cleaning or strip-down work.

➕ Additional Work

Some jobs fall outside standard service packages, including:

• Suspension servicing

• Linkage bearing replacement

• Brake bleeds

• Seized or corroded components

Any additional work will always be discussed and agreed before proceeding.

Prices exclude bearings.

 

🛞 Suspension Servicing

Suspension service prices include new seals and oil where applicable.

Forks

• Lower leg service: from £70

• Full fork service (air & damper): from £140

Rear Shocks

• Air can service: from £60

• Full shock service: from £140

Pricing varies by brand, model, and condition.

 

🔧 Bike Builds

• Full bike build (boxed bike): from £60

• Frame-up custom build: from £200

 

📌 Important Information

• Prices shown are guidelines

• Parts are charged separately unless stated

• Additional labour may be required for seized or corroded components

• Labour for complex or time-based work is charged according to the time required.

 

Bike Cleanliness: Bikes should be presented in a reasonably clean condition.
Where a bike arrives excessively dirty and requires significant cleaning before work can begin, additional labour may be charged. Any additional cost will always be discussed and agreed before proceeding.​

 

📦 Storage & Collection

Bikes are stored free of charge for 14 days after notification of completion.
After this period, a storage fee may apply.
